A Guide to Buses in Utah County

BYU and UVU students have free transit on all UTA (Utah Transit Authority) services, including the UVX bus line, the FrontRunner, SLC light rail, and local buses. Your student ID card functions as your bus pass. Note that the UVX bus is free for all riders. If you’re not a student at these institutions, or want more information about fares and passes, you can find out more here.

Whether or not you have a car, there are many great public transportation options for BYU and UVU students. Here’s a brief breakdown:

Utah Valley Express

The Utah Valley Express is, broadly, the most useful transit service in Provo and Orem. UVX buses run from Orem Central to Provo Central, with stops at UVU, the University Mall shopping district, the north and south sides of BYU, downtown Provo, City Center Temple, and the Towne Centre mall (among others). Between 6:00 AM and 11:00 PM, UVX buses generally arrive every fifteen minutes, during the night they arrive every half-hour.

FrontRunner

At Provo Central and Orem Central stations you can board the FrontRunner rail system, which will take you as far north as Ogden, with stops at most major cities along the way. You can also transfer to the SLC Green Line light rail at North Temple Station, which will take you directly to Salt Lake International Airport.

Local buses

There are also smaller buses which service most of Utah County. For an overview of these lines and their stops, consult this useful map. Green lines run every fifteen minutes and blue lines run every thirty minutes; red lines have more limited service.
